Special Awards

Lifetime Commitment to the Breed 2015:

Awarded to Brian Townes

We cannot remember the Dobermann Club of the Cape without Brian. As one of the original members and trainers of the Dobermann Club of the Cape, he assumed the responsibility of club treasurer from the onset; a position he still maintains to this day. He is the glue that holds the club together; ensuring the club’s i’s are dotted and t’s crossed. We are forever indebted to Brian for his enduring devotion and support; from club finances, to shows and to members’ well-being. We are forever grateful to him and are privileged to have been the recipient of his undying loyalty. Without him the club would not be where it is today. Our heartfelt thanks for all he has done for us.

Awarded to Hyman Balfour Leibman
Hymie has been involved in the Dobermann breed for decades and made a stellar contribution to the SA Dobermann by importing top quality dogs from Europe and USA. His kennel name Hysand is well known amongst Dobermann enthusiasts and Hymie is well remembered training and showing his dogs with the Dobermann League and Dobermann Club until his retirement. It gave us great pleasure to award him with a special medal for a ‘Lifetime Commitment to the Breed.’

Her passion for Dobermanns and their owners is what has made her so special. She remains an honorary life member of this club. It gave us great pleasure to award her with a special medal for a ‘Lifetime Commitment to the Breed’.

It gave us great pleasure to award her with a medal for a ‘Lifetime Commitment to the Breed’.

The Cerberus Trophy:
The Cerberus Trophy was first presented in 1981 in memory of Les Stemmett’s deep love of Dobermanns.  He trained them well, and hoped every Dobermann owner shared his passion for the breed.

True to his passion, Les believed as a member of the club, rather than speak unkindly of another’s dog, it better to help owners with challenging dogs by lending support through the camaraderie of the club.  After all, Dobermann Clubs are the guardians of the breed.

This breed trophy is unique, in that it is not awarded annually, and as such, the award is not concerned with how well the dog fares in the ring, or any other discipline.  The trophy is awarded to a person based purely on their concern and involvement in the betterment of the breed, and their contribution to keeping the club on it’s feet providing information, and assistance to all Dobermann owners.

2015:
(Presented by Phyllis Stemmett, daughter of Les Stemmett)
On behalf of Jo, Les Stemmett’s widow, the Cerberus Trophy is being awarded to a person who has championed the breed, passionately devoted time and effort to rescuing unwanted Dobies, and supported the club for many, many years.  I have the greatest pleasure in announcing the recipient of the Cerberus Trophy for 2015 to our very own champion both in and out the ring – Donne Lucas.

2011:

I have the greatest pleasure in announcing that this year the trophy is very proudly awarded to Sandy Aberdein who has been such a staunch supporter of the Club and the Breed. Sandy has looked after trophies and prizes for many years. This is in appreciation of all her hard work for the club’s benefit. Thank you and we are proud to have you as the recipient of the award. You will always be well loved by your Dobermann friends!!!
